Eat your veggies! Lay off the potato chips and cookies! Sound familiar? Well, it turns out that it’s not so simple anymore. Learning to navigate the concept of a healthy diet in today’s day and age can feel a bit like a maze, walking blindly through the realms of the gluten free, vegan, plant-based and paleo, to name a few. And while each one of these lifestyles comes with their own set of specific dietary parameters and health benefits, at the end of the day, it’s safe to say that they share one very important goal: to decrease the amount of processed food in our pantries.
When you stock your pantry with healthy and quick-cooking items, you’ll never have to worry about what you’re feeding your family.

By now, we’ve all heard of quinoa. But did you know that quinoa is considered one of the few vegetarian sources of a complete protein? It contains all of the nine essential amino acids that our bodies don’t produce and that we typically source from red meats, fish, poultry, cheese, egg whites and dairy. Quinoa is my pantry superhero.
2. 100% Whole Grains
Pre-packaged whole grain products like pasta and rice have many more preservatives and harmful ingredients than you may realize. I prefer to stock my pantry with bulk whole grains like bulgur and millet. These grains maintain a texture similar to rice and are packed with protein and complex carbohydrates.
Beans are a lifesaver for me! I keep plenty of low sodium, BPA free canned beans in the pantry as well as a variety of dried beans and lentils so I can always make dinner in a pinch. Beans are a great source of protein and fiber. Try our Pesto Pasta with Beans recipe – I promise your kids will love it!
The best part about these pantry staples? They can be easily combined into a healthy and easy meal in as little as 20 minutes (our kind of prep time!) And when you add blends of natural herbs and spices to create different flavor combinations, the possibilities are endless. Our pilafs do just that, using the full range of 100% whole grain blends, vegetables, legumes, herbs, spices and other high quality ingredients to create savory, spicy and flavorful meals that are also low in sodium and packed with protein.
